As part of its efforts to expand in the Asia region, KGI
Securities acquired KGI Securities (Thailand) Public Company
Limited (
“
KGI Securities (Thailand)
”
) in 1998 and has since
become the largest shareholder with a 34.97% stake. KGI
Securities (Thailand) is among the leading local brokerage
houses and is a public company listed on the Stock Exchange
of Thailand (SET). It provides service through 13 branches
across the country and boasts a workforce of over 600
employees.
2010 Performance
KGI Securities (Thailand) turned in solid results in 2010 despite
the enormous political upheaval in the country, including public
curfews in 2Q10 and the shutdown of the SET. The Company
booked stellar results in 2H10, thanks to its ability to adapt
and to adopt appropriate strategies under evolving business
conditions. All business divisions, including brokerage, equity
derivatives, fixed income products and investment, were able
to deliver impressive numbers last year.
The market share of KGI Securities (Thailand)'s brokerage
business improved to 4.65% in 2010 from 3.88% in 2009,
raising its ranking in the market to fourth position.
Supported by innovative product development and improved
business momentum, KGI Securities (Thailand) issued 21 DWs
in 2010. It is now the market leader in DW products in Thailand
in terms of market share by trading value and by the number of
issues. Despite fierce competition, the Company was also able
to sustain its leading market position in Stock Borrowing and
Lending (SBL).
KGI Securities (Thailand) ranked No. 1 both in bonds
outright trading and private Repo business among securities
brokerages in Thailand in 2010, and was awarded the Best
Bond Securities Firm for the year 2010 by the Thai Bond
Market Association. KGI Securities (Thailand) was also the first
and only brokerage in Thailand to have its Thai-version Repo
agreement approved by Thailand SEC.
In 2010, KGI Securities (Thailand) acted as co-underwriter on
one IPO and financial advisor and lead underwriter on four
IPOs. It also acted as financial advisor on M&A deals and
private placement deals. The Company in addition served as
financial advisor on TDR and debenture issues.
2011 Outlook
In order to ensure the best possible returns for shareholders,
KGI Securities (Thailand) will continue to develop new products
and provide all-round financial trading services for international
investors in Southeast Asia.
