much and so little have changed. New friendships have formed, and new
grudges are developed (or old ones persist), and everything we do has had a
part in shaping the people we are today. Our reactions to each other's actions,
and then the consequent reactions, these are the things that define our
personal beliefs and values. So okay, you might not like the person sitting
next to you, but in the future, looking back, you'll understand that that person
has been invaluable to helping you become the person you are.
This is why, although I am still afraid, I'm willing to try the future.
I am afraid to step out because I've been surrounded by the same loving
environment for the past 12 years, but I also find courage to take the first step
because of the constant companionship. I might not keep in touch with all of
you, and not all of you will keep in touch with each other, but I will always
know that all of you, sitting before me in graduation gowns, have had a part
in making me who I am.
So, Class of 2012, here's to our lives, to our loves and tears and joys
and sorrows, Here's to what will make us grow. Here's to reaching for
the sky. Here's to my love for my family, to my friends, and for myself. I
welcome all that the future brings – new friends, new loves, new memories,
new changes, and new goals. Here's to achievements. Here's to breaking
free of the protective cocoon that shields us from reality and the outer world.
Here's to all of you, to all my classmates who I've grown up with and who
have helped shape me into the person I am today, and whom I have shaped
in turn.
