Controlling Health Care Costs
Taiwan’s NHI systemhas been able to deliver convenient
and good quality medical services while spending less on
health care than other major countries.Adjusted for purchasing
power parity, Taiwan’s annual health expenditures per capita
are US$2,499, about one-third the amount spent by the United
States. Health care spending as a percentage of the total
economy is also lower than for most countries, totaling just
6.6%
of Taiwan’s GDP (Chart 7).
